The new mayor of Olds, Mike Muzychka, says as far as he's concerned, the first meeting in his new position was a success.

He was sworn in Oct. 23, along with the new council. Chief administrative officer Michael Merritt swore Muzychka in. Then Muzychka swore in all six councillors, including the two newcomers ñ Heather Ryan and Wanda Blatz.

"I think it went well," he says. I think we got a lot of things organized and didn't have too many speed bumps or road bumps, I guess."

Muzycka was very impressed with how willing councillors were to sit on the boards and commissions that require council representation.

"Everybody seemed to give way and let everybody else have opportunities, so I was very happy with the way the council (operated)," he says.

Now that the organizational meeting is out of the way, Muzychka is looking forward to the first council in which regular business will be dealt with. He predicts that will occur in early November.

"That'll be the meaty one," he says.
