Two area residents – a woman from Didsbury and a man from Olds – are among three people to have been charged following an investigation by the Cochrane RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit, Mounties said.
Shaylene McCauley, 23, of Didsbury, faces three counts of break and enter, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, two charges of failure to comply with conditions of release order, and mail theft.
She has been released on bail pending a June 28 court appearance in Cochrane.
Cory Ryan Davies, 45, of Olds, faces 10 charges, including possession of break and enter instruments as well as two counts of failure to comply with a release order.
”These matters were dealt with by the court,” the RCMP said without further elaborating.
McCauley and Davies were charged after the Crime Reduction Unit's officers arrested on March 24 a prolific offender who was found in possession of a forged cheque, Cpl. Gina Slaney, media relations officer, said in the press release issued today (June 7).
“The subsequent investigation lead to identifying and charging three offenders for multiple property offences relating to motor vehicle theft, mail theft, and break and enters,” said Slaney.
Police are also seeking a third individual, Christopher Clark, 37, of no fixed address, who now faces two dozen charges, including three counts of break and enter, five counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and three counts of fraud.
Warrants have been issued for Clark’s arrest and anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000, or their local detachment.
Inspector Dave Brunner is detachment commander of Cochrane RCMP.
“This investigation shows how the Cochrane Crime Reduction Unit uses their knowledge of local crime trends and offenders to disrupt crime in our community and further the RCMP’s goal of ensuring safe homes and safe communities throughout Alberta,” Brunner was quoted as saying in the press release.
