People wanting to make a donation to Olds College can now do it through a new online auction site.
The site, which went live on Dec. 1, currently has 23 items available to bid on. For the first auction period, Olds College worked with a couple of suppliers to get items.
“The items are ranging from trips to jewelry, hunting, different shopping gift cards, almost anything you can think of,” said Jen Donofrio, Olds College development officer.
“We will also branch into services too, to showcase some of the talents of people in and around the college.”
The money will support different areas of the college as well as Broncos athletic teams.
People can also donate items, as long as the items have a minimum retail value of $50.
“Anyone can donate. We are also asking the college's different schools to bring in items,” said Donofrio.
While the college hopes to raise money through the auction, the site will also give exposure to the institution.
“It is just another vehicle for us to get people exposed to Olds College and to make them understand what we offer,” said Donofrio.
“A way they can do that is by going on the online auction site and getting more of an interest in the college and explore.”
Each auction will last for three weeks. New items will appear on the site every two weeks.
“For our next round, which will go live on Dec. 15, we are looking to getting closer to 40 items,” said Donofrio.
She hopes that a rivalry between the schools to bring in as many items as possible will develop.
“Any item that a school brings in or donates, any money from that item goes back to that school,” said Donofrio.
The site presently has more than 40 users, a number Donofrio hopes will increase before the end of the year.
“We would really like to see that expand well beyond the community of Olds,” she said.
“We really want to profile Olds to all of Alberta.”
