OLDS — This year's edition of the Olds & District Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting (AGM) will be a little different. It will be held virtually, due to pandemic restrictions.
The event, the first ever for the Chamber according to executive director Caroline Bodmer, will take place on March 10, starting at 12 noon. A social period will be held before the AGM, starting at 11:30 a.m.
The guest speaker is Olds Mayor Mike Muzychka. A question and answer session will follow his speech.
“It will be the first time the chamber has gathered in a year, so it’s a big deal for us,” chamber president Clare Janitz wrote in an email.
“Unfortunately, we won't have that in-person social aspect from the normal AGM but through the Zoom platform we are going to include some information gathering from our membership through a few polls that will be open throughout the event.
“From this we hope to gain some insight into how the membership has managed through the pandemic, whether they accessed assistance from any of the levels of government? What they would like to see from the chamber in 2021? Things like that.”
The chamber is also looking for members to volunteer to be on the board of directors. Currently, there could be six positions open if some don't stand for re-election.
Members are asked to pre-register for the meeting so they will receive a link to it.
“We are encouraging folks to order lunch from a local eatery and support them and enjoy a delicious local lunch while taking part in the AGM,” Janitz wrote.
As in past AGMs, a draw will be held for a door prize. The difference this year, Janitz noted is that due to the fact the meeting is being held virtually, it will be "a door prize with no door.”
