OLDS — A consultant could be chosen this spring to undertake a study of transit needs in Olds.

“We are in the process of assembling the request for proposal with an aim to have a contractor selected by the end of March,” community services director Guy Lapointe wrote in an email to the Albertan.

He noted that the Town of Olds earlier received a grant from the federal government’s Rural Transit Solutions fund to study the viability of transit in the community.

Lapointe said the program “is fully funded by the federal government with up to $50,000 available to use towards the study.”

The contracted consultant will “conduct a thorough assessment of our current transportation needs and recommend transit options for our growing community,” a town document says.

“The consultant will prioritize transparency, inclusivity, and engagement, reaching out to residents and key stakeholders through various channels,” the document adds.

“These stakeholders include local businesses, schools, Olds College, community organizations, advocacy groups, and transportation experts.

“By collaborating with these groups, the project aims to incorporate diverse perspectives into the final plan.”
