OLDS — Mayor Mike Muzychka is pleased with the latest repairs made to the railway tracks at Highway 27 and 50th Avenue.
The repairs were made April 15 after town officials complained that work done there the previous week resulted in vehicles becoming “airborne” as they went over the tracks.
Town operations director Scott Chant said as a result of that initial work the railway tracks were eight inches higher than the surrounding pavement.
In response to phone calls from several town officials, CP said temporary repairs would be made and a permanent fix would be undertaken about a year from now.
Muzychka told the Albertan he has driven over the tracks several times since the latest repairs were made April 15 and he’s happy with the result.
"It's much, much better. The fix that they did seems to be really good, so we’re quite happy with that,” he said. “It’s a thousand times better.”
Muzychka said he personally had driven over the tracks several times after the initial work was done on April 7.
“In fact, the first time was quite eye-opening. Subsequent times I realized it was there and the signage was a bit poor as well. We did lobby them to beef up the signage,” he said.
"It was awful the way they left it originally but the new fix is excellent.”
Muzcyka said he planned to phone representatives of CP Rail and Alberta Transportation to tell them personally how he feels about the latest repairs.
He was asked if there’s a chance the final repairs might be made earlier than a year from now.
“Well, I’m not sure if this isn’t the final fix now that they’ve done, but I’ll know more next week. I’m planning telephone calls to both CP Rail and Alberta Transportation,” he said.
