OLDS — Although the Town of Olds has now suspended pick-up of compost from bins for the winter, there will be a brief change to that in early January before pickup resumes in April.
Brent Williams, the town’s chief administrative officer, made that announcement during a recent town council meeting.
Williams said the compost pick-up suspension, which began Nov. 1, will continue until a “one-time pick-up” some time during the first half of that month, “depending on weather, when it’s not -30 or 40.”
Aside from that brief exception, he said compost bin pick-up will not resume until April.
Williams said according to the municipality's calculation of the average amount of volume produced per household, the three-month wait until the next pick-up should work out, so residents are encouraged to use their bins as normal until that point.
“Generally speaking, that should be plenty of room for a family,” he said, “certainly for smaller households. “
