Olds RCMP find stolen truck, grenades on Mountain View County property

OLDS — Olds RCMP are investigating after finding some stolen military equipment while tracking a stolen vehicle.

The Canadian Forces came to the Olds detachment on July 26 to help dispose of three white phosphorous grenades Olds RCMP seized recently in the stolen vehicle case.

On July 25, Innisfail RCMP received report of a Chevrolet truck being stolen in the detachment's area.

With the help of the vehicle's owner and the OnStar GPS system, police were able to track the stolen truck to a rural property on Range Road 25 in Mountain View County.

Olds RCMP executed a search warrant at that property. There, they found:

• the stolen 2018 Chevrolet Silverado;

• a mortar launcher;

• the white phosphorous grenades;

• 12, 7.62 millimetre (mm) round magazines;

• a bandolier loaded with 7.62 mm ammunition;

• a box filled with miscellaneous military equipment, including tarps and helmets that were previously reported stolen out of Lacombe County;

• three bolt action rifles;

* eight air pistols and BB guns; and

• an air rifle.

Olds RCMP say they’re continuing their investigation into the matter and have yet to identify a suspect.
