RCMP are waiting for the results of an autopsy to positively determine the death of a Penhold youth who was found lifeless along the side of Hwy. 2A just outside the Red Deer city limits.

RCMP Sgt. Patrick Webb said while police treat every sudden death as suspicious they are not willing to speculate at this time and will wait for the Medical Examiner's results to release the cause of death.

Meanwhile, police continue to investigate the circumstances around the death of the Penhold teen, a 17-year-old male whose body was discovered early Thursday morning.

At about 1:30 a.m. Red Deer rural RCMP and EMS personnel responded to a report of person lying of the side of Hwy. 2A, about a kilometer south of the City.

RCMP said members discovered a 17-year-old male, a resident of Penhold, deceased.

RCMP said investigators believe the events relating to the male's death occurred between 11:30 p.m. Aug. 11 and 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 12.

Police are asking the public to contact them if they witnessed any suspicious vehicle or pedestrian activity in this area during this time period.

Webb said RCMP has a "tentative" identification on the deceased teen but are waiting for the autopsy results and permission from the family to release it.
