Olds RCMP are continuing to investigate an incident in which one of two suspects escaped while being placed under arrest in town.

The incident occurred Sunday, Oct. 8 at about 5:45 a.m.

While patrolling the Imperial Industrial Park, RCMP noticed a suspicious vehicle in the UFA parking lot. Police discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen and initiated a traffic stop.

A male and a female were placed under arrest. However, during the course of the arrest, the male was able to break free.

"The male dragged the already handcuffed female back into the stolen vehicle and began driving away," an RCMP news release says.

"Officers were successfully able to deploy a tire deflation device, but the suspect continued, by ramming two police cars. Police pursued the suspect vehicle for a short distance before it came to a stop."

At that point, the male suspect tried to steal another car from a passing motorist but was unable to do so. He then fled on foot. As of Sunday, he had not been located.

The female suspect was arrested and taken into police custody.

RCMP say both suspects are known to them and they face "numerous" charges.

Police also say no one ñ police, suspects or members of the public ñ were injured during this incident. However, there was damage to property.
