OLDS — Olds protective services, including municipal enforcement, the Olds Fire Department and the RCMP are joining forces to launch a positive ticketing program for Olds and area youth.

It will take place Thursday, July 16 at 1 p.m. at the Circle K convenience store.

Several mascots will be there, including Sparky, the Safety Bear, and Oliver Olds, the town’s official mascot.

Under the program, youth will receive tickets for doing positive things like wearing bicycle helmets, picking up litter, volunteering in the community, practicing good manners, sharing, undertaking proper safetly precautions at crosswalks, pratising an active lifestyle and otherwise making good choices.

The tickets can be redeemed for hot or cold beverages as part of the program which is called “Positive Ticketing Operation Freeze.”

“Protective services staff issue the tickets as an icebreaker to develop rapport with youth in Olds,” a town news release says.

Community services director Doug Wagstaff is inviting parents, guardians and children to attend the kickoff of Operation Freeze.

If you wish to do so, drop by the Circle K convenience store, located at 5642 - 46th St., July 16 at 1 p.m.
