A public hearing will be held June 25 at 6 p.m. regarding the proposed next phases in development of The Highlands residential area in Olds.

Council made that decision during its May 14 meeting.

The bylaws pertain to the Area Structure Plan (ASP) of The Highlands, which is moving into phases 6 and 6a of development.

Phase 6 consists of the northerly portion of Williams Avenue, whereas 6a consists of the portion of lands adjacent to the west boundary of the school parcel.

It's proposed that under Phase 6, a 3.50 hectare (8.65 acre) portion of land would be redesignated from urban reserve to general residential (R2) to enable the future development of about 37 residential parcels.

Under Phase 6a, a .83 hectare (2.05 acre) portion of land would be redesignated from urban reserve to general residential to enable the future development of about 14 duplex units.

Councillors gave first reading to two bylaws to enact the changes. Second and third reading can’t happen until there is a public hearing.

Originally the intent was for 6a to be a part of Phase 8 in the ASP.
