Sunrise Village and Sunrise Village Encore in Olds paid tribute to war veterans last week.

On Friday, Sunrise Village Encore staff welcomed Olds legion veterans to view 300 paper poppies "planted" in the gardens of the home.

During that visit, the legion reps received donations collected during the annual Pennies for Poppies program. That program was created by Seasons Retirement Communities, which operates Sunrise Village Encore and Sunrise Village in Olds.

Also, Olds legion member Earl Wilton visited the nearby Sunrise Village Olds to view the poppies there.

Under the program, which began Oct. 27, residents donated pocket change in support of the Royal Canadian Legion.

The program was created as a promise to never forget the service women and men who fought in the name of freedom.

The poppy gardens were displayed until Nov. 11.
