Council has determined that a road to be closed is technically an alley and will not restrict garage use as previously thought.

A public meeting was held during the regularly scheduled July 9 council meeting in regards to a road closure on 57th Street.

The road that is to be closed is technically an alley and will not restrict garage use as previously thought. It is a part of the sixth phase of The Highlands Area Structure Plan.

The area that will be closed is west of the future Williams Avenue and will stop prior to the garages of residences.

There were no members of the public who may be affected who spoke for or against the bylaw. Nor did council receive any written submissions.

The lane that gives access to garages will not be closed until an alternative route is available for public use. Residents will still have access to their garages from the west.

Members of council wanted to ensure that the new temporary lane would be labelled as such by the developers so residents know that this will only be temporary.

The lane where access to the garages will be is eventually going to hold lots for new homes and a green space.

After brief discussion by council the public meeting was closed and now the application and information package about the road closure will be sent to Transportation Minister Brian Mason for review and decision.
