OLDS — Plans are in place for the second annual spring charity fundraising motorcycle ride, organized by the Olds chapter of the Sober Riders.
The 2024 edition will occur on June 2, this year going from Olds to Stettler at about 2:30 p.m., when a barbecue will be held. Last year’s inaugural one went from Olds to Rimbey.
Donations will be accepted for the Marc Moebis EMS Scholarship Fund.
Moebis was a Fort Saskatchewan paramedic who died of a heart attack his parents believe was brought on by the stress and hours he worked as a paramedic and a paramedic supervisor in Lamont, located just north of Edmonton.
He left behind a wife, Nicole, and three children.
Motorcycle rider and St. Paul's Lutheran Church pastor Olav Traa says the event will begin with an indoor church service at 10 a.m., followed by the blessing of the bikes at 11 a.m.
The ride will begin at 12 noon from St. Paul’s.
Last year, 19 bikes were involved, with some riders coming from Calgary and Edmonton. Traa says riders from as far as those two cities have already expressed interest in participating in this year’s event.
