A vehicle collided with a power pole east of Olds on Friday, April 5, causing some small fires which were put out in less than an hour.

The incident occurred at about 4 p.m. on Rge. Rd. 284.1 about a mile south of Highway 27.

RCMP and 12 firefighters responded.

"Upon arrival, crews found a single sedan had left the roadway, striking a power pole in a farm yard, shearing it off," an Olds Fire Department news release says.

"The loss of the pole caused the wires to contact a shelter belt of spruce trees adjacent to the line causing arcing and small fires.

"Fire crews secured the scene, awaiting Fortis crews to come and isolate the power prior to extinguishing the fire."

Fire officials say the matter was "resolved" within an hour, partly as a result of "rapid response from Fortis."

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
