OLDS — Six sports facilities in the town of Olds were reopened Friday, June 12 as part of Alberta’s state 2 relaunch under COVID-19 pandemic protocols.
However, as of Friday, the Splash Park, Aquatic Centre and the new Rotary Athletic Park of Olds still remained closed.
In a news release, the town announced that the following sports facilities are now open:
• Hedges ball diamonds
• Exhibition diamonds
• Centennial Park horseshoe pits
• Hartman Green disc golf
• Elks soccer field
• Imperial diamonds
The release warned that although these facilities are now open, users still have to be careful.
“There are many Alberta Health protocols and potential impacts the town needs to adhere to in order to keep our community safe,” it says.
“While things appear to be returning to normal, the potential to spread the COVID-19 virus remains a concern.
“It is important to ensure a responsible local relaunch of programs and services.”
Users are asked to “continue to follow all Alberta Health protocols and make responsible decisions for yourself and your loved ones.”

According to a June 9 provincial announcement, as of June 12, entities that can re-open in Alberta include the following: libraries; indoor recreation, fitness, and sports, including gyms and arenas; movie theatres and theatres; community halls; team sports; and pools for leisure swimming.
As of Friday, a maximum of 50 people can now participate in indoor social gatherings, including wedding and funeral receptions as well as birthday parties.
Also as of Friday, a maximum of 100 people can attend outdoor events and indoor seated/audience events, including weddings and funerals.
