BOWDEN ñ A special meeting will be held in Bowden council chambers Monday, May 15 to discuss the town budget and pass a bylaw instituting collection of this year's municipal taxes.

Council decided to hold the special meeting at the suggestion of chief administrative officer James Mason.

He noted that otherwise, council would not meet until May 23, and if council waited until then to pass its taxation bylaw, staff would find it difficult to get tax notices out to all property owners by the end of the month.

He also pointed out that if council held a special meeting before that date, there'd be time to fix any glitches in the bylaw that might crop up.

ìYou can do all your information and you can get it into the system (but) sometimes you get a glitch somewhere and you end up having to redo the tax bylaw. I've seen it happen before,î James said during council's May 8 meeting. I'm hoping it doesn't happen.î

Coun. Wayne Milaney indicated the process could be quite straightforward, in which case the meeting could be very short.

ìIt'll take us longer to get here than to maybe approve it,î he said with a smile.

ìYou never know,î Mayor Robb Stuart said. ìWe'll have a discussion.î
