Thanksgiving safe driving campaign launched

From Friday, Oct. 5 through Monday, Oct. 8, Olds RCMP will be participating in Operation Impact, an annual awareness campaign to encourage safe driving behaviour. watching for drivers who may be impaired by alcohol or drugs, distracted drivers and aggressive drivers. They’ll also be watching to ensure all drivers and passengers are safely buckled in seat belts.

Beginning this Friday through Monday, Oct. 8, Olds RCMP will be participating in Operation Impact, an annual awareness campaign to encourage safe driving behaviour.

Extra police will be out on the roads watching for drivers who may be impaired by alcohol or drugs, distracted drivers and aggressive drivers. They'll also be watching to ensure all drivers and passengers are safely buckled in seat belts.

"Operation Impact supports Canada's Road Safety Strategy 2025, which has a goal of making Canada's roads the safest in the world," Cpl. Courtney Harding says in a news release.

Harding says the The timing of this campaign during the Thanksgiving weekend is "strategic," because "more people are travelling and traffic collisions are frequent."

"Olds RCMP would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving holiday weekend and safe travels," Harding says.
