In recent months, Olds' town office has taken on a new look just inside the front doors.
Protective glass has been installed and some office space has been reshuffled.
Town communications coordinator Monica Leatherdale says along with the safety features, those other renovations took place at the same time to "provide more efficient customer service, to make the planning department readily accessible to the public, to meet current safety codes, and provide several new office spaces."
Leatherdale said the glass, which is not bulletproof, as some may think, was installed "to ensure the health, safety and security of all municipal employees."
"There have been incidents in the past that could have escalated, therefore security measures were put into place."
She did not specify what those incidents were.
Leatherdale says the cost of the renovations was about $315,000.
"Overall staff have felt very comfortable and reassured with the safety measures that have been put into place," Leatherdale said in an email.
"We tried to do something that wouldn’t completely take away interaction with customers, but add that extra layer of protection for staff."
