OLDS – United Nurses of Alberta (UNA) members rallied near the Olds Hospital and Care Centre Saturday as they participated in the union’s Day of Action campaign on a historical day in history.

UNA Locals were encouraged to work with their members and reach out to other unions at their workplaces to hold information pickets, rallies or winter-themed events on Jan. 25 outside their worksites and in their communities to “show their support for safe staffing, safe patient care, and public health care and call for respect for frontline health care workers.”

The UNA is currently in contentious contract negotiations with employers including Alberta Health Services, having just started formal mediation again on Jan. 23.

“The Day of Action is an opportunity for members to connect with each other and show solidarity on the anniversary of an important milestone in UNA’s history - the 1988 nurses' strike,” the union explained in the lead-up to the day.
