OLDS — With COVID restrictions lifted, many fundraisers have gone back to being in-person events.
But not the 56th annual Kiwanis Auction in Olds.
For about the third year in a row, that event will be run totally online.
"It’s just so efficient that way," says Murray Elliott, one of the auction’s coordinators.
The auction, conducted in cooperation with Rosehill Auction Mart & Auction Service Ltd., is one of the Kiwanis Club of Olds’ biggest fundraisers of the year.
This year’s edition will start at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 and run until Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
Call Leo Quaife at 403-507-5172 or Frank Powney at 403-556-0598 for pickup.
Auction items can be viewed at the Olds Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105 on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m and Friday from noon to 8 p.m.
To bid, visit the auction site: www.oldsauction.com\rosehill-live.
Pickup of items will occur Friday, Dec. 2 from noon to 8 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105.
For decades, the auction was a live, in-person event. However, in 2020, with the advent of COVID-19 restrictions, the club and Rosehill Auction Mart & Auction Service Ltd. offered it online only.
Each year since, that has proven too efficient to let it go.
“It works so well. It’s more efficient for the auction mart, works well for us,” Elliott said.
“People have been very generous. We’ve already got a lot of donations. They’ve been stepping up to the plate. We get lots of calls.
“So we’re still using the Legion as always, but since COVID, it’s morphed into an online world, moreso than before and we’ve continued the online tradition.”
