OLDS — A school bus driver has been charged in connection with a collision between a school bus and pickup truck that occurred Monday, March 1 near Olds.
The school bus driver has been charged with failing to “proceed safely after stopping at an intersection,” according to Olds RCMP Cst. Morley Statchuk.
The collision occurred on Rge. Rd. 14 at Twp. Rd. 332, just north of Olds.
The call came in via 911 at 8:22 a.m. Olds RCMP, Olds firefighters and ambulance crews responded.
When they got there, police said it was determined that the bus driver, a 51-year-old woman, and 10 students from Olds Koinonia Christian School were not injured and had remained safe inside the bus.
The pickup driver, a 56-year-old man, also reported no injuries. He was the lone occupant of the truck.
“Chinook’s Edge School Division transportation authorities responded promptly and arranged for alternate transportation for the involved students away from the scene to a safe location where parents are being contacted,” Olds RCMP Cpl. Courney Harding said in a news release issued yesterday shortly after the collision.
