UPDATE: 'Stay off' Highway 2, warns RCMP, as roads impassable

Town ban in effect as RCMP are currently on scene at multiple collisions between Olds and Didsbury

OLDS - RCMP are currently on scene at multiple collisions between Olds and Didsbury on Highway 2.

"Traffic CANNOT proceed through this area. Please stay off the highway," RCMP said in a press release issued at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

RCMP further advised in a 10:15 a.m. release that there is now a tow advisory issued.

"Tow trucks cannot come to the area so please do not call them."

The southbound lanes of Highway 2 at Highway 27 east of Olds are also closed this morning due to multiple motor vehicle collisions in the area.

Travellers are advised to use Highway 2A as an alternate, according to 511 Alberta social media post at 8:56 a.m.

Snowfall in the area Thursday has resulted in icy, snow covered roads.

Earlier this morning northbound lanes of Highway 2 at Highway 27 east of Olds were partially blocked by a jack-knifed semi in the median.

The two jack-knifed semis that were in the southbound lanes of Highway 2 at Highway 582 east of Didsbury have been moved off to the shoulder.

RCMP continue to advise against non-essential travel on Highway 2 between Didsbury and Red Deer.
