OLDS - Town of Olds staff have resumed flushing the municipality's water lines after a power failure at the Mountain View Regional Water Services Commission’s treatment plant led to town properties placed under a boil water advisory effective Sunday afternoon.
At 6:51 p.m., the municipality confirmed the boil water advisory was still in effect and notified the community that flushing had resumed to reduce the sediment in the municipal water system.
"This will help us reduce the discolouration and let us to end our boil water advisory, hopefully by Monday, October 30," the town's update stated. "The crews are focused in the south part of town, west of the rail line. But pressure issues will be experienced in most areas of town."
At 4:03 p.m., the municipality advised that the community was under a boil water advisory as a precautionary measure and Alberta Emergency Alert issued an alert about 40 minutes later.
The boil water advisory was expected to last for 24 – 48 hours.
The municipality noted the renewed flushing will create slippery surfaces for the morning commute, advising people to take care.
"We appreciate your understanding during this difficult event," the municipality's statement concluded.
The town expects to provide its next update Monday morning.
