Olds Fire Department (OFD) is looking for more volunteers. And they don't have to fit the stereotypes of decades past, such as big, tall guys, according Mike Hoffman, the department's new fire chief.

Great progress is being made in the construction of a new Habitat For Humanity duplex in Olds. Habitat for Humanity builds homes for people who otherwise couldn't afford them.

Lucinda Watkins, who runs the Olds Lending Shelf (OLS), is looking forward to being able to park in her garage for the first time in about eight years, now that the organization is in a new location: the basement of the Olds United Church.

Citizens on Patrol (COP) is being revived. Community services director Doug Wagstaff made the announcement during the Oct. 23 town council meeting. Mayor Mike Muzychka confirmed the revival during an interview later in the week with the Albertan.

Olds council has renamed a portion of a street Memorial Way to pay tribute to military and emergency services in the community. A public ceremony is planned for Nov. 1 at the fire hall.

Olds High School students are doing their part to help residents honour the memory of loved ones.

Local baton twirlers are preparing to host the provincial baton twirling championships May 4-6 next year at the Ralph Klein Centre (RKC). They took a big step in those preparations by attending a baton twirling workshop Oct. 14 and 15 at the RKC.

Plans are falling into place for this year's edition of the annual Uptowne Halloween Howl shopping promotion. The event takes place Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to at least 4 p.m.
