The current economic downturn is the Creator's way of punishing all Albertans for being greedy and extracting oil from the land to live a lavish lifestyle, an indigenous elder says.

The Olds Calico Capers Square and Round Dance Club is holding a celebration on Sunday, Oct. 16 to mark 65 years of the club's existence. Club coordinator Marlene Potter says the event, which will take place at the Evergreen Centre from 2 to 5 p.m.

A spokesperson for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is impressed by the amount of support the organization got for a rally it held in Olds. The rally, held Sept. 24 in the Evergreen Centre, attracted about 150 people representing 30 chapters.

Juno award-winning musician George Leach not only performed during the Indigenous Youth Conference at the Alumni Centre in Olds today, he will be performing tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 5) at the Trans Canada Theatre. Half of all proceeds from ticket sales will go to support the next indigenous youth gathering. Doors open at 7 p.m. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Students, faculty and staff at Olds College have a new tool to stay informed and stay safe this year.

It was a weekend of mixed results for the Olds College Broncos female soccer team and a tough one for the Broncos men's team. On Saturday, Oct. 1, the female Broncos shut out Lethbridge 5-0. But on Sunday, they were edged 1-0 by Medicine Hat.

Dr. Dick Wray was honoured Sept. 29 with the Kiwanis Achievement Award for 60 years of service. He received the award during the Kiwanis president's dinner, held at the Olds Legion. He was inducted in 1956, a year after the Olds club began.
