TORONTO — Canadian retailer Sporting Life Group is launching a new national sporting goods chain catering to team sports players.

The company says its new Team Town Sports banner will open its first three locations this spring in Alberta and Ontario.

It says it plans to expand to 25 stores across the country, creating about 2,000 new jobs.

Sporting Life Group says the store will carry a wide assortment of equipment and gear for all team sports, including hockey, basketball, soccer and baseball.

The company says Team Town Sports will also cater to different ages and genders, with plans to offer the widest and most prominent product assortment for female athletes — a historically underserved customer base in the Canadian sports retailing market.

Chad McKinnon, president of Sporting Life Group, says the company's new store will bring all team sports under one roof.

"By making it a place where all customers can access the equipment they need to play and train for the team sports they love, Team Town Sports represents the reinvention of the sports retail experience," he said in a statement on Monday.

Sporting Life Group also operates Golf Town Ltd. and Sporting Life Inc. stores.
