A heartwarming experience

I would like to commend all the people who came out for the Bells of Peace ceremony on Nov. 11. It was a great turnout with over 100 people. You made it all worthwhile. I would also like to commend those who helped make this such a successful event.

To Frankie Kelly, Richard Astle and the museum for their help, participation and use of their bells.
To the Tippe family for lighting all the candles.
To Jim Wendel who helped build the crosses.
To Grant Hemming for his work on programming the carillon and running the bells.
A very special commendation to Kevin Bentley who built and donated 24 wood crosses to the project and helped erect them at the site.
To Google for teaching me how to crochet, and to my friends who watched me obsessively crochet poppies for a week straight.
Watch out next year for more programming, including opportunities for schools, churches, community groups, children, veterans and families of veterans to get involved.
We’re in need of volunteers for research, building white crosses, wood poppies, metal poppies, pictures and signs.

We will be looking for sponsors for banners depicting our own heroes, and people to crochet or knit lots of poppies; pattern provided.

We will need people to help with setup and takedown. Please get involved. It’s going to be an incredible, heartwarming experience.
If you’re on Facebook watch “A Better Didsbury” for ongoing updates.
