Animal abusers are less than human

I've said it before and I will say it again. People who abuse animals are less than human. It makes me so sick to hear about incidents of animal abuse over and over and over again.

People who abuse animals are less than human.

It makes me so sick to hear about incidents of animal abuse over and over and over again.

It brought instant tears to my eyes when I read about the Siberian husky dog and kitten found in Calgary this month, starved to death with their mouths taped shut.

It is reported that the dog, about two years old, was found emaciated in an alley in Willow Park, southeast Calgary on Jan. 9.

The kitten, believed to be about six months old, was found at the same location a week later.

Calgary veterinary clinic Vets to Go is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the identification of the offender.

On a positive note, there has been $8,000 raised in public donations to add to the original $5,000 offer, making for a total reward of $13,000. This provides hope in the fight against animal abuse.

It is also reported that the offender could be charged under the Animal Protection Act and the Criminal Code of Canada, which could lead to five years in prison, a $20,000 fine and lifetime ban from caring for animals.

But even if the offender is found, no matter the punishment they receive, there is no justice for what these poor animals were forced to endure.

How can someone intentionally harm a helpless animal that looks to a person for guidance and for so many other things.

If I had a genie in a bottle I would wish that animal abusers would suffer from what they put animals through.

What does an animal abuser accomplish from what they put animals through anyways; do they really feel so high and mighty for making a helpless animal suffer when they can't fight back?

There are humane options for people to give up their animals. Sentencing them to a cruel death should not be one of them.

Advertise online, on social media, or take them to the local veterinarian office. Call the Calgary Humane Society or other adoption agencies.

As well, if anyone suspects animal abuse in the area, they are advised to call the bylaw officer at 403-638-5511, or surrounding humane societies.

I have said it before and I will say it again, there is a spot reserved for all animal abusers where the sun doesn't shine.
