On Feb. 28 Jason Kenney, Canadian Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism apologized to the House of Commons. “This is very serious and unacceptable,” said Kenney’s spokesman Alykhan Velshi. And what was it that Minister Kenney had done that was so serious and unacceptable? Kenney was responsible for sending out a letter for partisan reasons using his parliamentary letterhead.
During the Canadian Wheat Board elections in 2008 my Member of Parliament David Anderson and four other prairie Conservative MPs sent out letters using taxpayer dollars, advising farmers to vote for anti-Wheat Board candidates. The RCMP wrote a letter saying, “The fact that the letters were sent in support of individual candidates would constitute campaigning.”
So, why haven’t David Anderson and his four colleagues apologized for their serious and unacceptable behaviour?
