With spring now officially here, our government is moving forward with road construction and maintenance across the province.
In fact, a number of highway projects are ready to begin in Central Alberta for the 2011 construction season. This includes the conversion of the Hwy. 11A interchange in Red Deer from a cloverleaf to a diamond.
Construction began in 2010 on the $23.7 million project and will be complete by fall 2011. The road to Drumheller will also be improved with the widening and reconstruction of 15 kilometres between Highways 21 and 840 west of Drumheller.

By continuing to build and improve our highway network, we keep Albertans working. It also lays the foundation for future economic growth and support our communities. These projects are key in building our province’s world class transportation network to support the safe and efficient movement of people and goods.
Having access to fuels that are both affordable and sustainable is also key to the future of our province’s transportation industry.
Alberta is building on its reputation as a major player in the bioenergy sector with the implementation of a Renewable Fuels Standard on April 1. The new standard requires an annual average of two per cent renewable diesel in diesel fuel and five per cent renewable alcohol in gasoline sold in Alberta.
The greenhouse gas emissions of renewable diesel or alcohol must be at least 25 per cent lower than the equivalent petroleum fuel. Albertans can be proud of these measures as we are the first North American jurisdiction to commit to a greenhouse gas emission threshold for renewable fuel by supporting a Renewable Fuels Standard.
