Over the past four years or so I have noticed some disturbing activities regarding cats and their owners.
Firstly, it was time to cut my grass again today and I must first rid my lawn of three cat defecations as well as four piles from my garden.
I know my neighbour and she has three cats.
We have a good relationship and are friendly, waving hello and generally getting along.
We discussed the fact that she said her cats prefer to go outside and she would be willing to clean up after them.
This problem occurs year round.
Another observation is dog owners must pick up after them and are quite good at doing so.
I have also witnessed some cat owners on our block depositing used cat litter into their green composting bin.
This activity attracts cats to the area and causes more cat problems, not to mention the compost is sold to Olds residents; disgusting right!
After contacting the bylaw officer, I was told that I may not be sure it is the neighbour's cats and that the Town of Olds doesn't have the funds or resources needed to properly deal with this disgusting problem, even remarking that it could be stray cats causing this problem.
Here is where I'm confused because I was told that cats do not have to be registered here.
So if no money is being collected from registration of these animals, how will the town ever afford to do anything constructive?
Furthermore if cats are not registered, how can anyone determine a stray cat from a domestic pet?
I don't want to ponder this topic.
I also would like to see more responsible cat owners.
I am tired of this problem and my lawn shows the end result, as well as I can hardly bring myself to eat anything from my garden!
I hope the town can bring some resolve to this issue!
Or cat owners themselves!
