Disruptive traffic threatens park

Over the last few months, we have noticed an increase in nuisance traffic in Centennial Park.

Last year I was assured by town council that increased patrols would help curtail the disruptive traffic that has been increasing and is very disturbing to the residents of the area.

I had suggested closing the park with a gated fence during the late hours of the evening, something that was expressed to me as being very expensive.

I do appreciate council being frugal with our tax dollars. A letter I received this past week informed me that the town was looking at possibly installing cameras at the park. I am happy to see this, however, the nuisance traffic is increasing with people in extremely loud and obnoxious vehicles showing off in large groups nearly every time there is a new snowfall or rain to make the pavement slick.

This also goes on nearly every single day at noon, as kids from the high school come down in large groups, and leave a large amount of litter on the ground as they leave.

Centennial Park is a beautiful area, with a large variety of wildlife and diverse habitats. By allowing this to continue we are allowing the destruction of that habitat, as well as driving off any wildlife that calls that area home.

I hope town council does follow up on the promise to increase patrols in the area, as well as cameras so that the disruptive behaviour can finally come to an end.

Roger Tewson,

Innisfail

Editor's note: Town administration is currently reviewing additional information on two types of CCTV camera systems for Centennial Park's parking lot. The results of the review are expected to be before town council in early spring.
