Kudos to all those who helped out during Friday's accident at Balsam Crescent off 54th Street.

When the Jeep Cherokee struck a light standard and went flying into two homes, smashing through a fence and garage in the process, concerned people in the area at the time immediately dropped what they were doing in order to help.

That includes Olds resident Brandi Kelner who was driving toward the four-way stop at the time and swerved to avoid the flying vehicle, as well as Leon Durand and employee Chris Birch who were coming back from a service call, and Rudolf Liebenberg who lives nearby.

Ambulance personnel (EMS), firefighters and RCMP were on the scene within minutes as soon as a witness dialed 911. EMS workers helped the shaken couple out of the Jeep.

ATCO employees were on-scene quickly to ensure that gas was turned off to prevent injury.

That's the kind of community we have in Olds. Our protective services respond quickly to emergencies and residents are always ready to lend a hand. Let's hope it always remains this way.
