Council missed pitch on skatepark location

It is very disappointing and upsetting that town council did not have the decency and thoughtfulness to inform the people who would be most affected by the skatepark being located where they decided it would be.

It would have been respectful to have our opinions expressed on the location, before we received a letter stating it was decided, like it or not.

This is going to affect our horseshoe pitching greatly. We will most likely have to cancel our tournament. Our horseshoe courts have been in this town for 32 years, as well as the little green park, which will be destroyed.

For 32 years horseshoes have brought revenue to this town. People from all over Alberta come to our tournament. They leave their money at the legion, gas stations, hotels, stores, ice cream from the historical village, and even garage sales.

It would have been great to have the community involved as well, as getting their opinions as to where the skatepark should be built.

Our community members will be good enough to help raise the $500,000 needed to build the skatepark, but not good enough or important enough to have their input about the location.

Our horseshoe courts are open to the public. A group of individuals asked if they could use the courts (one being a town council member).

There are rules while using the courts. Rule 1 is absolutely no liquor on the courts. Rule 2 is clean up after yourself. No rules have been respected.

The most vile of all were the cigarette butts scattered everywhere on the ground in the courts.

The walkways were covered with sand. That left us to clean up.

We take pride in our courts and keep them clean. It reflects back on the town.

Yes, there should be a skatepark in town but not at the expense of another sport. There are other locations in town.

I distinctly do not like bullies, dictators and taxes. Take that as you like.
