DiCaprio incites change despite lack of knowledge

I am unclear as to who needed a learning moment re: Darlana Robertson on DiCaprio (Didsbury Review Feb. 16). I'm not a great cliché or saying individual, but will say with great confidence that experience is the best teacher.

I'm not a great cliché or saying individual, but will say with great confidence that experience is the best teacher.

I have been considered to be a well-educated individual, but there are certain things to be said about life's experience that can't be taught with a formal education. I find too, as I get older that I am able to pick and choose the types of things that I wish to learn about.

I also am able to see the times that I don't need to know about certain things to accomplish or reach my goals. To insult one's personal integrity as to the vocation that they have chosen or station in life that they may be at to my way of thinking is true ignorance. I am old enough to have known about some pin-up girls that made history and changed things enough to give a better life for future generations.

DiCaprio is a philanthropist and an actor as well as having talents that he uses for other people's benefit and not his gain. He obviously knows the meaning of time and money management. There is something that I always have remembered from a very young age.

That is when I see or hear others bashing someone and missing the point, I ask myself if I raised millions of dollars today and gave it away to benefit others or accomplished as much as that person that is being insulted.

Have I done anything today or any day to help or change someone else's life? We need the power of heroes like DiCaprio. We all have the power to incite change therefore a certain responsibility lies with everyone.

Some people are not able to for whatever reasons to make changes, but they shouldn't be chastised for their lack of incentive or whatever prevents them from making change.

They certainly shouldn't be considered ignorant. I don't think that DiCaprio's lack of knowledge regarding chinooks or oilsands decreases his ability to raise money for a cause. Apparently he knows the value of sticking to the point which only experience can teach.

In closing, I wanted to point something else out that might hit home.

I don't know how to do certain things and most people are trained in what they know. But I do know a little about a lot and am willing to learn.

I've made a lot of changes in other people's lives and my own and I reach my goals. I don't waste my time on finding fault and am in appreciation of people like DiCaprio. He's one of the reasons or someone like him that gave their time and money to save my life, not once but three times with life-threatening illness. Twenty years ago I would be dead for sure. That my friend is called a fact.
