I recently attended a drug workshop presented by George MacLeod, a drug education specialist, at McMan Youth Family and Community Services.
Here was the opportunity for parents and grandparents to attend a drug education workshop. The workshop assists one to create and maintain dialogue with you and your child, which is the absolute necessity in dealing with drug education.
Through this process one can inform children as to the risks and consequences of drug use.
The following are the topics of the four sessions: The World of Drugs; Drug Use & Adolescent Development-The Empowering Family/Preventing Drug Use; Talking to Kids About Drugs; What Do I Do If My Kid Uses Drugs. What parent could not learn from these topics by attending a workshop?
Innisfail is definitely not void of drug problems. The workshop was advertised in the Province, schools, and throughout the community. Only five people attended the workshop, three from Innisfail and two from Bowden.
With our never-ending busy lives, hopefully, George MacLeod will again present the workshop if parents/grandparents voice their concern and contact McMan Centre.
Remember, It's not always someone else's child, it could be yours.
