Farewell to longtime ORE executive director

Tami Gardner will be sorely missed, now that she is no longer executive director (ED) of the Olds Regional Exhibition, but we’re confident her daughter, Tracy, will carry on and do a good job as both ED and events manager.

News last week that Tami Gardner was leaving her position as Olds Regional Exhibition (ORE) executive director was stunning.

Gardner had been involved with the ORE for more than 30 years, first as a volunteer and then as executive director for more than 19 years.

She announced her departure on July 31, her last day in that position.

The news was made that much more stunning by the announcement — confirmed by ORE president Kerrie Harvie  — that Tami's daughter, Tracy, will cover the executive director duties as well as her duties as ORE events manager.

That must have been a difficult decision for the two of them.

Tami clearly loved her job and I'm sure she'll miss the contact with all those she worked with in the Olds community in particular, and the agricultural community in general.

I'm told that Summer Synergy, a gathering of youth interested in farming and ranching which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, was particularly close to Tami's heart.

I agree with Harvie; Tracy has 10 years of experience as events manager, and I'm confident she'll be able to handle both roles well.

All the best to both of them.
