With the 2019 provincial election campaign now at an end, the 2019 federal election race is already unofficially underway.

Who will come out on top in the federal battle remains anyone’s guess. What is known is that judging by the current state of Parliament, the 2019 federal election race may end up being a very bitter affair.

Scheduled to be held in October, the federal campaign is already shaping up to be an epic battle of leaders and a war of words.

For his part, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer will likely focus at least some of his campaign attacks on the scandals currently plaguing the Trudeau Liberals.

Pending an unlikely resolution of the SNC-Lavalin affair, Scheer will probably make it a big part of his election strategy, pointing the finger at Trudeau and accusing him of mismanagement and maybe worse.

Scheer has already repeatedly called for Trudeau to resign – and will likely continue to do so over the next months.

“Justin Trudeau simply cannot continue to govern this country now that Canadians know what he has done,” Scheer said. “And that is why I am calling on Mr. Trudeau to do the right thing and to resign.”

For his part, and judging from his recent public comments, Trudeau seems more than prepared to attack Scheer in turn.

“I think we are going to have an election in the coming months, and you can't be inventing things,” Trudeau said. “You can't be lying to Canadians, and I think highlighting that there are consequences, short-term and long-term, when politicians choose to twist the truth and distort reality for Canadians, it's not something we're going to put up with.”

Now under the leadership of MP Jagmeet Singh, the NDP will likely try its best to convince voters that the increasingly bitter fight between the Conservatives and the Liberals isn’t in the best interest of Canada.

The 2019 Alberta election was a hard-fought and sometimes ugly battle. Expect more of the same in the upcoming federal race.
