Grizzlys are great role models

I just wanted to give a shout-out to this year's Olds Grizzlys hockey team. My three boys and I are at the rink for hockey practices four days a week.

I just wanted to give a shout-out to this year's Olds Grizzlys hockey team.

My three boys and I are at the rink for hockey practices four days a week.

Each time we arrive after school at least one of them has to run into the main arena to watch a bit of the Grizzlys' practice.

A big highlight for them is hanging out and getting a high-five from the guys once they head for the dressing room after practice.

My boys have had mini sticks given to them by a couple players a time or two as well. These gestures mean so much to the boys.

Recently, my four-year-old had four players join his pre-hockey group on the ice for a practice.

They were a great group of guys that gave those kids 110 per cent of their attention for the entire ice time.

My son's atom B team had a goalie from the Grizzlys join a practice to help out their goaltenders, and my son in Grade 2 proudly points out the Grizzlys players who came to school and read to them.

As in other years, they've also come home with free tickets to a game or two.

While at times these children may seem like all they want to do is run wild at the rink, hunting for pucks and raiding the candy concession, don't be mistaken.

These kids appreciate every bit of attention they get from the Olds Grizzlys.

I know this when I tuck my little boy in at night and he's still smiling and telling me about the Grizzly that showed him how to shoot, or when my seven-year-old is barely off the school bus and he's excitedly telling me of the players that came to school.

As a parent, seeing such nice guys and good role models is refreshing and makes me happy.

It means so much to all of us.

Thank You!

We wish you all the best in the rest of your season.

Melissa Ellis and family,

Olds
