The Olds Koinonia Christian School (OKCS) Royals senior girls' basketball team had an outstanding 2018-19 season where they went into 1A provincials with a 29-2 overall season record.
Some of the season highlights included winning the highly regarded Quad tournament in the Camrose area for the first time, winning the CESAA league title for the third year in a row, and winning 1A south-central zones for the third year in a row as well.
With only four returning players, the Grade 10 players learned a lot and did very well under the leadership of the veterans.
The Royals completed their season with a provincial tournament that will go down in history.
They went into the tournament, held in Paradise Valley, ranked second in the province behind Stirling. They defeated third-ranked Foremost in the semifinals, clinching them a spot in the provincial final.
In the final, the girls came out cold in the first half, but came back from an 11-point deficit to win provincials for the first time in OKCS history by a score of 66-61 over the number 1-ranked Stirling Lakers.
Good defence, determination and teamwork helped the girls to pull out the victory.
The Royals thank God for giving them the strength and abilities to play the game they love.
