Jon Schnepp, 51, was a filmmaker and film pundit who was filled with so much passion and was the best at what he did.

He inspired me to get into the journalism industry, which is why his passing is so devastating for me.

Schnepp was hospitalized after suffering a catastrophic stroke the week of July 12 and was on life support until July 19 when he passed away.

I first began to follow Schnepp and his work in 2013 when I first saw him do a reaction video about the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman with another pundit I follow, John Campea.

His genuine excitement about the casting hooked me and from then on I always looked forward to knowing what he had to say about the latest and greatest in the world of movies.

His passion and knowledge of movies and comic books was second to none. He always found something positive in even the worst of movies or other media.

For years I looked forward to Schnepp’s online show each and every week about the world of comic book movies and TV.

He always brought on great guests with unique and varied opinions that helped further inform and understand my own opinions.

Perhaps my favourite aspects of the show were Schnepp's ability to find the best in every movie or news story that was covered -- no matter how bad they seemed to be -- and his impeccable sense of humour, which was second to none.

Not only was he an excellent pundit and all around fan, he was also a filmmaker. His most notable work was a documentary he did on the cancelled 1997 Superman film titled: The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?, which released in 2015.

Schnepp worked on the film for many years alongside his fiancé, Holly Payne, with whom he had spent 16 years.

His drive behind the film and the work he did as a pundit was a huge contributing factor to my interest in getting into the world of journalism.

I will be forever grateful to Schnepp for the influence he has had on my life. He turned my passion for movies into a career.

“He walked the line of being a great creator and a great fan,” said Mark Ellis, one of Schnepp's co-workers in a video commenting on the passing of the filmmaker-pundit.

Thank you Jon Schnepp for all of the work you’ve done and the positivity you put out into the world.

Rest easy.
