Innisfail councilor clarifies council remarks

In response to the editorial in the Innisfail Province on Dec. 6, if you Google my name along with that of our local newspaper, you will find numerous letters to the editor that I have written over the years.

One in particular is the letter I sent to various newspapers throughout the province urging Albertans to hold our newly-elected premier to her promise to fund insulin pumps and supplies for all Type 1 diabetics.

I have found that using this venue can be a very useful tool to bring attention to a subject that would otherwise be overlooked as a newsworthy item.

In reference to the remarks made by our local editor, I would like to clarify statements I made to the gallery of citizens who attended our council meeting on Nov. 28.

I was pleased to see the concerned group come to a meeting to express their concerns and to hold an open and frank discussion with council. I suggested that this approach was so much more productive than a negative letter-writing campaign.

It was never my intention to suggest that writing to the paper was inappropriate. Rather, I stated that the negativity did not serve either the community or the council.

And to our local scribbler, you are just doing your job as I am doing mine. We all want the same thing -- a vibrant, caring, progressive and sustainable community to call home.
