Innisfail gets big thumbs-up from American guests

After reading editor Johnnie Bachusky’s commentary -- We must salute our beautiful dreamers -- in last week's (May 21) paper, I felt compelled to respond.

Negative comments were made regarding the vacant and closing businesses in the downtown core, and how the planned digital sign would not improve the lives of citizens, etc.

I am not disputing the comments, but would like to share the views of our guests who came to visit last summer from Arizona and Kansas.

They were enthralled with the town. They couldn’t believe we had our own hospital, an indoor pool, the tennis courts, the twin arenas, the library, the beautiful golf course, the historical village, Discovery Wildlife Park and our quaint and lovely downtown. Their words, not mine.

During their stay, they had the opportunity to visit our attractions, have coffee with the “Senate” at the local restaurant and shop in some businesses. They left us saying how fortunate we were to live in such a beautiful community.

For the first time in years I saw the town through someone else’s eyes and it felt great. I should also mention the fact that we have had four new builds in our downtown core, this during a time of economic struggles.

That in itself is remarkable. Sometimes it is refreshing to look at what we have, not what we should have or don’t have. Kudos to all of those who continuously strive to improve our community.

Patt Churchill,

Innisfail
