If you live in Olds, Bowden, Didsbury or Carstairs it’s likely your newspaper was delivered by a carrier.
Carriers are a resilient bunch offering a vital service. We have carriers of all ages. Many long-term carriers have delivered without fail every week. Family members often pass routes to younger siblings.
People love their paper and are quick to complain if it’s not delivered. If we fail to deliver we’ve failed our readers, advertisers and ourselves.
Carriers can’t be deterred by cold, rain, snow, ice, mud or grumpy canines. Delivering papers teaches responsibility, time management, resilience and job satisfaction. Fitness and fresh air are side benefits.
National Newspaper Week is celebrated Oct. 1-7 this year. Canadian Carrier Appreciation Day is Oct. 6. I’d like to thank all our carriers for their time and effort in delivering the news. I encourage you to do the same.
