Lack of coverage miffs wife of convoy organizer

To say that I am disappointed with the Innisfail Province is a great understatement.

To say that I am disappointed with the Innisfail Province is a great understatement.

For the past five weeks I have read the paper to see what this community’s information source is going to print about Glen Carritt’s tireless work to stand up for hard-working Canadians who are out of work because of the lack of pipelines and access to tidewater for Canadian oil.

Today (Feb. 26) though, was the day I thought that perhaps the paper will finally mention something that has been on the news and in newspapers across the country! How disgraceful that the news provider for the town that Glen has been dedicated to, in various aspects, for over 25 years, says nothing about this historical event.

So here is the news: Glen Carritt has been instrumental in planning the United We Roll convoy for Canada and spent two days on Parliament Hill to stand up for our oil industry, which is one of the cleanest and safest in the world.

He has worked 20-hour days to continue representing the fantastic people in our town, running our local company and organizing this convoy. Why is it that the Innisfail Province will report on a local convoy that drove to Olds, and not one that left Red Deer Feb.14 with 159 trucks to drive across the country?

Do you have any idea of the logistics needed for this number of vehicles to travel across the country to organize permits and speakers for this event? The people in the convoy for Canada had support shown for their entire trip with an astounding amount of people coming out in Ontario, an estimated 2,000 people in their final stop in Arnprior, Ont. before Parliament Hill.

How incredibly sad that Glen Carritt’s hometown paper does not recognize him for his valiant efforts. Not everyone agrees with what this convoy represented, but Glen’s message from the very beginning was to have a peaceful, professional and respectful convoy and rally, a feat that was accomplished.

Lastly, I understand that the Winter Games made the front page but the one-quarter page picture of Johnnie Bachusky is ridiculous. The picture of Jim Pearson is not even clear. Is this story about Jim or Johnnie? I sincerely hope this paper starts doing a better job reporting the news to the good people of Innisfail.

Signed from a very proud wife, Debbie Carritt.
