We would like to extend our thank you again for the community's generosity during our poppy campaign.

On behalf of Olds Legion Branch 105, president Tom Bartholow and poppy chairman Leslie Manchur thank local residents for their generosity in supporting the organization’s poppy campaign.

We would like to extend our thank you again for the community's generosity during our poppy campaign.

With the proceeds of poppy funding, we have been able to direct our attention to organizations/facilities that will do the best to support our veterans.

Listed below are some of the donations that we have made this year to date:

  •  Legacy House for veterans in Red Deer (a house where military veterans can stay while receiving medical treatment).
  • A vital signs monitor for the emergency department of the Olds Hospital and Care Centre (on order).
  • Education bursaries for those in need of assistance including veterans and their families (sent to the Alberta/NWT command centralization bursary fund).
  • Poppy funds were allocated to the University of Alberta to be used for the HIMARCK program which is a medical training/research program for veterans and members of the military. PTSD is one example of the areas it covers.
  • Prizes for the local schools involved in the Remembrance poster and literacy contest.
  • Poppy Fund donations were given to the Olds Air Cadet Squadron Branch 185 and to the Didsbury Army Cadets Branch 3025. They are very dedicated to the overall poppy and Remembrance activities.

Without all of our dedicated volunteers and excellent staff of our Olds Legion and our community's support, our legion would not be able to flourish as it is.

Thank you.

Tom Bartholow

Olds Legion Branch 105 president

Leslie Manchur

Poppy chairman
