I moved to Didsbury four years ago and was quite surprised at the number of sidewalks left snow- and ice-covered throughout the winter.
Only about half the houses in town have sidewalks on their side of the street and that makes it an even worse showing.
After several years of trying to navigate a safe walk, of watching young moms struggle with strollers, and of talking to seniors who won’t venture out for fear of a fall, I can’t hold my silence another year.
This year has already started off in the same old pattern. I’ve noticed that it’s always the same offenders year after year.
I’ve actually spoken to bylaw enforcement with minimal results. I think they’re as frustrated as I am.
This year of all years we all need to get outside and get some fresh air and safe exercise. Come on people. Be nice. Be responsible. Be kind and considerate.
Kudos to the neighbours who have stepped up and started doing the walk next door that never used to get done and the other snow angels out there who do a senior’s walk for them.
Let’s all get out there and do our part with a shovel and a bit of salt.
