Re: Commentary: Affordable housing much needed

The affordable housing promise is just icing on a cyanide cake that will poison our municipal governments that have been healthy and doing well by their communities.

That along with Bill 18 and all the others recently introduced by the UCP government is just an example of a democracy being replaced with an autocracy with Danielle Smith, the Queen in residence.

The real fix for available and affordable housing is to stop encouraging the immigration that is supplying cheap labour for low wages, taking away good paying jobs from Albertans and  increasing the demands for accessible affordable housing.

Our government and industries controlling it need to get off the growth (i.e. greed) economic model and onto a sustainable economic model.

And yes, the profits will be lower but still there and adequate if managed properly. John Valliant is right in that we live in a society where the resource industry and business control our government.

And most of them operate on ever increasing profitability to satisfy their greed. For the good of all Albertans that model needs to be changed.

Hopefully the increasingly popular NDP can bring that about.
